  Dr. Xiao-Ming Xu received his Medical Diploma from Shanghai Second Medical University, Shanghai, China, and Ph.D. in Anatomy/Neurobiology from the Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA. He is currently Professor and Mari Hulman George Chair of Neurological Surgery, Vice Chair for Research of Neurological Surgery, and the Scientific Director of the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Group at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Xu’s research has focused on neuroprotection, and cell transplantation-mediated axonal plasticity, regeneration and recovery of function following spinal cord injury. He has received continuous support from both the federal and private grant foundations including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DOD), and the International Spinal Research Trust. Dr. Xu served as a regular member of the NIH CNNT Study Section (2006-2010) and is currently a regular member of the NIH NSD-A Study Section (2012-2018). He is the Chairman of the Scientific Executive Board of the Sabrina Cohen Foundation for Regenerative Medicine. He has published over 120 research papers in prestige scientific journals such as Nature Neuroscience, Journal of Neuroscience, FASEB Journal, Annals of Neurology,and Cerebral Cortex. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Neural Regeneration Research. He also serves as a Section Editor on Frontiers in Biology and a member on the Editorial Board of Journal of Neurotrauma. He has co-edited two books on “Animal Models of Acute Neurological Injuries (I and II)” and one book on “Neural Regeneration”.
